Opera Introduction

In 1963, Hong Kong suffered from a severe drought, and millions of people faced water shortages. The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China made overall arrangements, and Jiangxi and Guangdong provinces quickly took action to support Hong Kong's water supply. The 3000-meter-high Sanbaoshan in the Eastern River Basin is beautiful and lush, nourishing a certain area of land. The people of Ganzhou, with their love for the country and concern for Hong Kong, silently guarded the green mountains and clear waters of the source area. The forest ranger Gong Shuisheng, who had never set foot in Hong Kong, regarded protecting the source area's water and delivering clean and abundant water to Hong Kong as his lifelong mission.

"The River Meanders Southward" flows southward, carrying the blood ties and familial affection between Ganzhou and Hong Kong, carrying the culture of gratitude for water, praising the dedication of the people in the source area, and interpreting the profound concept that "green mountains and clear waters are gold and silver mountains". The opera is written by renowned playwright Sheng Heiyu and directed by outstanding director Zhang Manjun.
