An Yuan was invited to attend a theme sharing session for Hong Kong teenagers commemorating the 60th anniversary of the supply of water from the Dongjiang River to Hong Kong

A clear pool of water, deep and lasting affection. To commemorate and celebrate the 60th anniversary of the supply of water from the Dongjiang River to Hong Kong, the Hong Kong National Youth Federation Committee and the Hong Kong Youth Activity Committee of All Sectors, in collaboration with dozens of youth organizations, jointly organized a series of youth activities themed on the Dongjiang River. On August 27th, our county was invited to attend the "Remembering the Source of Water, Connecting with Water" - A theme sharing session for Hong Kong Teenagers Commemorating the 60th Anniversary of the Supply of Water from the Dongjiang River to Hong Kong, sharing with Hong Kong teenagers the blood ties and family affection that are closely linked by water.

At the event, young KOL Jiang Yang affectionately shared the story of Gong Longshou's love and protection of the source. Gong Longshou also came to the scene as an invited guest to communicate with the teenagers. Since 1979, when Gong Longshou was 20 years old, he has been engaged in forest protection work. Over the past 46 years, he has been safeguarding more than 400,000 mu of forest area and protecting the source of the Dongjiang River, fully demonstrating the deep affection of the motherland for Hong Kong and the blood ties between the two places formed by water.

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the supply of Dongjiang water to Hong Kong. In 1963, Comrade Zhou Enlai, then Premier of The State Council, ordered the construction of the Dongshen Water Supply Project to divert water from the Dongjiang River to alleviate the water shortage in Hong Kong. On March 1, 1965, the Dongshen Water Supply Project was officially put into use. In the years that followed, to meet Hong Kong's ever-growing water demand, the project underwent three expansions and one comprehensive renovation. Like an increasingly strong "lifeline", it has supplied over 30 billion cubic meters of water to Hong Kong to date, silently supporting approximately 80% of the city's water needs. For 60 years, generation after generation of people in Anyuan have kept Premier Zhou's instructions in mind and protected every blade of grass and tree at the source of the Dongjiang River as they would their own eyes, building a solid ecological security barrier.

It aims to showcase the deep affection of the motherland for Hong Kong and the blood ties formed by water between the two places through the stories of those who have experienced it firsthand, artistic performances and interactive exchanges. Finally, the sharing session came to a successful conclusion with a chorus of "My Motherland". This event also specially selected the "Dongjiangyuan Natural Drinking Water" from our county as the water for the conference.
